ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Mar. 5, 2014) – The Philippine Coast Guard here has received 18 new aluminium speed boats, two rubber boats and a truck from the Department of Transportation and Communications as part of its support and modernization program.

Zamboanga Coast Guard Station commander Jomark Angue received the boats and the truck in a ceremony attended by representatives of various government agencies.

He said the the boats would be deployed in Zamboanga City and in the provinces of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.

The ceremony coincided with the promotion of 22 Coast Guard personnel deployed in South-Western Mindanao.

Angue urged the promotees to work harder in service to the public. He also quoted a line from the movie Spider Man in an effort to instil responsibility to the promotes as member of the Coast Guard. “With great power, comes great responsibility,” he said.

“The rank bestowed on you, you deserved it because pinaghirapan niyo yan, but remember that senior officers like me, we expect so much from you, when you increase your rank it means you get more responsibilities, it is not only an increase in salary but because your rank includes a certain degree of responsibility. We expect so much from you to accomplish the Coast Guard mission,” Angue said.

Just recently, Angue led a massive tree planting here and blood donation to the Zamboanga Medical Center. (Ely Dumaboc)
