ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 6, 2014) – A lone gunman shot a member of the Philippine Coast and his daughter in an attack in the southern port city of Zamboanga, police said Monday.
Police said Abdurasid Iskan was fatally shot and his six-year old daughter is still recuperating from a gunshot wound. Both were both shot along Don Toribio Street in the village of Tetuan.
“Iskan was killed in the attack. His daughter is wounded in the arm,” PO2 Millet Ansaldo, of the Tetuan police station, told The Manila Times.
She said the victims were shot shortly after they disembarked from the family car.
Police are still investigating the motive of the shooting, said Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman.
He said the gunman, clad in a blue jacket, casually walked away from the scene after the shooting. “The suspect who was wearing a navy blue jacket casually walked towards Veterans Avenue after shooting the victims,” Huesca said.
No individual claimed responsibility for the shooting, but gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga City where hired killers actively operate. (Mindanao Examiner)
