MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / May 27, 2014) – The controversial manager of the  Metro Railway Transit-3 Al Vitangcol III has been removed from his post and is now being investigated in connection to the awarding of a P517-million maintenance contract to his uncle’s company.

Vitangcol is also being accused by Czech Ambassador Josef Rychtar of extortion.

President Benigno Aquino has confirmed that Vitangcol has been removed from his position by Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emillio Abaya.

Vitangcol’s uncle has put up PH Trams that allegedly won in the bidding.

“So, nagkaroon ng bidding and there was a company that won… Now, he (Vitangcol) didn’t reveal that he had a relative who was an officer of this company to anybody… he was relieved for that purpose,” Aquino said.

“Secretary Abaya will take all the necessary steps to ferret out the truth,” he added.

Vitangcol was replaced by Light Rail Transit Authority administrator Honorito Chaneco as officer-in-charge of MRT-3.
