ZAMBOANGA CITY – Motorcycle gunmen killed a policeman on Saturday evening in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, officials said.
Officials said Corporal Edgar Gaganting was shot several times in the head in the village of Tumaga. He died instantly.
Gaganting was in civilian clothes and driving his motorcycle when the attackers tailed him and without warning opened fire on the cop, who was a recipient of a medal of merit for capturing Abu Sayyaf militants here early this year.
Officials said the assailants escaped after the shooting, leaving behind the bloodied policeman, who was a member of a local anti-drug unit.
The motive of the killing is still unknown and police were investigating the murder of Gaganting. No individual or group claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. (The Zamboanga Post)
