ZAMBOANGA CITY – A prisoner was shot dead inside a police station in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines after he attacked four people and stabbed a policeman, officials said on Sunday.
Officials said the incident occurred late Saturday after Marlon Homantoc mauled another prisoner Edmer Jimenez and forcing policemen to transfer him to another jail. But Homantoc overpowered PO2 Roberto Francisco and SPO2 Vicente Antonio Verallo, Jr. and ran to the Patrol Section where he tried to escape.
Homantoc also managed to grab a knife and PO1 Arsam Sakilin, who was outside the police headquarters. Another policeman PO2 Jaidin Sabdula, who rushed to the wounded Sakilin, shot Homantoc in the face.
The prisoner was rushed to the hospital, but he died along the way, police said.
Police are investigating the breach in security in the headquarters. (Mindanao Examiner)
