ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE – Police arrested an employee of a cooperative in Zamboanga del Norte province after she faked a robbery and later broke down during investigation that she staged the heist.
Police said Ester Ansiling, 43, reported to authorities that two men, armed with a knife, held her up on October 30 in Caluan village in Sindangan town while on her way to the bank to deposit P34,000.
She told police that one of the men stabbed her in the arm after she resisted the robbery, but the assailants overpowered her and took her bag containing the money and escaped.
But during investigation, police doubted her story and further questioning forced Ansiling – who works as a treasurer for Self Employee Assistance Kaunlaran – to admit that she faked the robbery so she can take the money.
Police said they interviewed several people in the area, but they have not notice any untoward incident and this was bolstered by inconsistencies of Ansiling’s statement until she acted nervously and admitted to the crime.
Ansiling has been detained and police said it would file appropriate charges against her. There was no immediate statement from the cooperative about the arrest of Ansiling. (Mindanao Examiner)
