Cotabato City engineer arrested on rebellion charges

Chief Editor June 9, 2017

COTABATO CITY – Security forces arrested an engineer working for the local government after he was accused of being a member of the local ISIS or Maute group, police said Friday.

Police said Nasser Dilangalen, 57, did not resist arrest and is currently being interrogated. There was no immediate statement from the city government or the mayor, Cynthia Sayadi, on the allegations against Dilangalen.

He was the second to be arrested in connection to the government crackdown on suspected terrorists.

Just recently, soldiers and policemen arrested former Marawi Mayor Fahad Salic on suspicion he was financing or supporting the Maute group which is still fighting security forces since May 23 after they attacked the city in an effort to put up a caliphate in the restive region.

Authorities also arrested Cayamora Maute, the clan’s patriarch while attempting to enter Davao City along with his wife and daughter, and another man in a rented van.

Dilangalen’s arrest came a day after troops intercepted 5 young men recruited by ISIS to fight government forces in Marawi. They were on their way from Maguindanao’s Parang town when stopped by security forces after relatives tipped off the military about their plan to join Maute group.
