Cotabato fires burn down market, shops

Chief Editor October 11, 2017
KIDAPAWAN CITY – Millions of pesos worth of properties went up in smoke after a huge fire broke out on market in Koronadal City in South Cotabato province in southern Philippines, the Bureau of Fire Protection said on Wednesday.
The fire started late Tuesday at the Koronadal City Public Market, according to security guard Ryan Dumagid, who told the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner that he noticed a spark in one of the stalls inside the market and followed by a fire which quickly spread.
Fire trucks from General Santos City also rushed here to help local fire fighters battle the blaze.
In North Cotabato’s Kabacan town, a fire also burned down the newly-opened Franz Lara Marketing along the highway in Osias village on Tuesday. The conflagration reached 3rd alarm. Damage to properties could reach to P2 million, said Fire Marshall Marleap Nabor.
He said electrical short circuit was likely the cause of the fire, although investigation is still continuing. There were no reports of casualties in both incidents. (Rhoderick Beñez)
