Cotabato niyanig ng lindol

COTABATO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 12, 2012) – Niyanig ng lindol ang Mindanao at umabot sa 4.5 magnitude ang lakas nito, ngunit wala naman inulat na casualties o damage sa mga gusali.

Ayon sa bulletin ng US Geological Society ay naitala ang paghanig sa ilalim ng lupa dakong hating-gsbi ng Sabado. Ang sentro ng lindol ay may lalim na 58.3 kilometro at halos 83 kilometro naman ang layo mula sa Cotabato.

Ilang ulit ng niyayanig ng lindol ang malaking bahagi ng Mindanao, subali’t karamihan sa mga ito ay sa gabi o madaling araw kung kaya’t hindi na ito namamalayan ng publiko.

Nasa tinatawag na “ring of fire” ang Pilipinas at sa ilalim ng karagatan ay naroon ang maraming mga aktibong bulkan na kalimitang dahilan ng paggalaw ng lupa.

1968 August 02 Ms (magnitude) 7.3 sa Casiguran; 1973 March 17 Ms7.0 sa Ragay Gulf; 1976 August 17 Ms7.9 sa Moro Gulf; 1983 August 17 Ms6.5 sa Laoag; 1990 February 08 Ms6.8 sa Bohol; 1990 June 14 Ms7.1 sa Panay; 1990 July 16 Ms7.9 sa Luzon; 1994 November 15 Ms7.1 sa Mindoro; 1996 May 27 Ms5.6 sa Bohol; 1999 June 07 Ms5.1 sa Bayugan; 2002 March 06 Ms6.8 sa Palimbang; at ang 2003 February 15 Ms6.2 sa Masbate, gayun rin ang huling pagyanig sa Negros Oriental na kumitil sa buhay ng maraming tao.
