MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Dec. 27, 2012) – Party list group Alab ng Mamamahayag (ALAM) has welcomed the decision of the Office of the City Prosecutor in Cebu to dismiss the multiple libel charges filed by actress Annabelle Rama against showbiz writer Chito Alcid.
Rama filed charges against Alcid for allegedly claiming that the veteran entertainment columnist had written several defaming posts in Facebook which she said had caused damage on her reputation.
Because of this, Alcid immediately sought the help of ALAM national chairman Jerry Yap, who in turn asked lawyer-journalist Atty. Berteni Causing, president and second nominee of ALAM, to defend the showbiz reporter.
Causing said the court’s decision was a triumph against the controversial Cyber Law which has been petitioned by ALAM as null and void before the Supreme Court.
For his part, Yap said that the dismissal of the libel complaint against Alcid would be a big blow against the candidacy of Rama, who is running for a congressional seat for Cebu City.
