PHILIPPINE AUTHORITIES SAID a crocodile had attacked and killed a 35-year old man in a river in Palawan province.
The mutilated body of Jomar Mangali was recovered in Canipaan River in the town of Rizal on Friday after he was reported missing by his family. According to Forester Jovic Fabello, a spokesman for the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development or PCSD, said the crocodiles have nesting areas in the river banks and are off-limits to residents.
Fabello said Canipaan is also a crocodile sanctuary and it was unclear how Mangali found his way there.
Last December, PCSD caught a 15-foot crocodile in Palawan’s Balabac town and was believed to have killed a fisherman, Cornelio Bonete, 33, in November. (With a report from Rhoderick Beñez)
