DA, Army lead organic farming seminar in Mindanao

Agricultural officials and army soldiers turn over farming materials and seeds to members of the Barangay Defense System in Sultan Kudarat’s Columbio town. 

SULTAN KUDARAT (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 20, 2012) – The Department of Agriculture in cooperation with the Philippine Army handed over farming materials and seeds to members of the so-called Barangay (Village) Defense System who graduated from Farmer Field School on Organic Vegetable Production in Sultan Kudarat’s Columbio town.

Director Abdul Dayaan, of the Agricultural Training Institute, represented Benedicto Sagarino, regional director of the Department of Agriculture in SOCCSKSARGEN, an acronym that stands for South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City.

Areeds Nano, from the Office of the Municipal Mayor, also attended the Thursday event facilitated by the 27th Infantry Battalion headed by Lt. Col. Alexis Noel Bravo.

The Department of Agriculture also handed over the P1.7 million worth of livelihood assistance to Barangay Defense System Federation of Columbio.

Bravo praised the local community for its support to the peace and development efforts of the army in the town. (Mindanao Examiner)
