A SECONDARY school teacher in Sta. Cruz town, Davao del Sur, is now behind bars after the local police arrested him Tuesday evening for acts of lasciviousness involving a minor.
Rey Ondayo Awatan, 24, a resident of Barangay Sibulan in Sta. Cruz, is facing charges for Acts of Lasciviousness under Article 336 in Relation to Sec. 5 (b) of RA 7610 filed against him by a student.
Judge Carmelita Sarno Davin, RTC Branch-19 of the 11th Judicial Region based in Digos City, issued the warrant for Awatan’s arrest on June 18. A PHP180,000 bail was fixed for his temporary liberty.
It was not known whether the complainant was one of the suspect’s students.
Maj. Darwin Dura, spokesperson of Davao del Sur Philippine National Police (PNP), said they could not divulge any information surrounding the case, in compliance with laws protecting underage complainants.
Awatan is now temporarily detained at the Sta. Cruz police station. (By Eldie Aguirre)
