MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 1, 2013) – A four-year old boy was killed after a man fired a homemade shotgun during the New Year’s celebration in the Philippines, police said Tuesday.

It said the man fled after the incident. The boy’s family who lives in Mandaluyong City appealed to the man to surrender peacefully.

Authorities said there were 8 others hit by stray bullets and over 400 injuries from firecrackers in the country, although the Department of Health claimed the numbers were significantly lower than last year. (Mindanao Examiner)
