Deadly Pakistan floods soak northwest – CNN News

Editor April 5, 2016

Torrential rain and flash floods have killed at least 47 people and left 37 others injured in northwest Pakistan, the country’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority said in a statement Monday.

At least 141 houses have been damaged as a result of the rain and flooding in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, of which Peshawar is the capital.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif “expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious human lives due to floods,” his office said.
“The Prime Minister has directed NDMA (the National Disaster Management Authority) and other concerned authorities to ensure timely relief activities for the victims; including provision of proper medical care, food and shelter for the affected,” it said.

Relief package

The KPK government has announced a relief package for flood affected people across the province.
Shaukat Yousafzai — the Parliamentary secretary for the KPK chief minister — told CNN that relatives of those killed in the floods would receive $3,000 for each of the deceased.
Owners of destroyed homes would receive $1,000 and those with homes partially damaged in the floods $500 compensation, Yousafzai said.
The injured would also receive $500, he said.( Sophia Saifi, Zahir Shah and Susannah Cullinane, CNN)
