ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police said a man who stabbed dead his neighbor was himself shot and killed by an unidentified assailant in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines.
Police said Omar Sabuddin, 25, was instantly killed after being shot at least 10 times with a .45-caliber pistol at a basketball court in Lower Calarian village shortly after he attacked Alkap Sadjaluddin, 45.
Insp. Dahlan Samuddin, a regional police spokesman, said an investigation is ongoing into the killings.
He said Sadjaluddin and his wife were asleep when Sabuddin came and knocked on their door at around 1.30 a.m. of December 28.
Sadjaluddin, who opened the door, was attacked without warning by Sabuddin who stabbed him 12 times. Sabuddin, who was allegedly suffering from a mental illness, escaped towards the basketball area where he had been shot and killed 30 minutes later.
Policemen recovered from Sabuddin the bloodied kitchen knife he used in stabbing his victim and 10 bullet casings of .45-caliber pistol.
It was unknown what triggered Sabuddin to attack his neighbor, but police said he also tried to attack his own cousin. (Mindanao Examiner)
