MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / May 29, 2013) – The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong warned Filipino travelers transiting or entering the territory against bringing restricted items, particularly stun guns or similar devices, either hand-carried or checked-in luggage.

It said 57 airline passengers were arrested last year by Hong Kong Police for illegal possession of stun devices. During the first three months if this year, Hong Kong authorities arrested 14 mostly Filipino seamen for possessing such devices.

The Consulate reminded travelers of the ban and other similar devices at Hong Kong ports. It said offenders may face a penalty of up to HK$100,000 or about US$13,333, and a maximum prison sentence of 14 years.
