
ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR (Mindanao Examiner / May 27, 2012) – The Department of Public Works and Highways continues to lay asphalt on many roads and highways in Western Mindanao despite its good condition, or break it.
From Zamboanga City to the provinces of Zamboanga Sibugay down to Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte, including Basilan, hundreds of kilometers of roads were either broken to pave way for new concreting or asphalted.
The DPWH said the road rehabilitation has been programmed and funded by the national government. It said the infrastructure projects would spur economic development in Zamboanga Peninsula and support the government’s peace and development efforts.
Among the projects completed by the DPWH are the intermittent sections of Siocon-Sirawai road in Zamboanga del Norte costing some P39.61 million; a section of the road from Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur to Zamboanga City amounting to P30.4 million; asphalt overlay of Imelda section of Lanao province to Pagadian City and Zamboanga City road costing P30.41 Million; and the rehabilitation of the damaged portion of the road from Liloy town in Zamboanga del Norte to Ipil town in Zamboanga Sibugay costing about P33.9 million.
DPWH Region Director Jorge Sebastian claimed they completed 353 various infrastructure projects, inclduing bridges, school buildings, water system, multipurpose buildings, farm to market roads, flood control and drainage system projects, amounting to P3.75 billion. (Mindanao Examiner)
