Drone With Minute Amount of Radiation Lands on Japan PM’s Office – NBC News

Chief Editor April 22, 2015

TOKYO — A drone with a minute traces of radiation landed on the roof of the Japanese prime minister’s office on Wednesday, according to officials and local media.

A bomb squad was deployed to examine the object — which measured 1.7 feet — after it was discovered by security staff at 10:20 a.m. (8:20 p.m. ET Tuesday), Tokyo police told NBC News. A 4-inch object with a lid was attached to the drone, police added, without elaborating.

No explosives were found on the drone, although it carried a warning sticker which had minute traces of radiation, public broadcaster NHK reported, citing a police source. Tokyo Metropolitan police were unable to confirm the report.

No injuries or damage were reported. The incident occurred while Prime Minister Abe was in Indonesia attending the Asia-Africa conference, officials said. (NBC News)
