ZAMBOANGA CITY – A suspected drug pusher and a policeman were killed in a gunbattle following an anti-narcotics operation in the southern Philippine province of Sulu, officials said on Monday.
Officials said policemen backed by army soldiers were to inspect a house suspected as being used as drug den when a man, armed with an automatic rifle, opened fire on security forces and sparking a firefight in the village of Kaunayan in Patikul town.
The attacker, Annudin Daharani, was killed in the fighting that also left one police officer dead.
Officials said Daharani was a notorious drug pusher and was included in the police list of top drug personalities in the province.
Police also recovered Daharani’s rifle and ammunition and a .45-caliber pistol and 6 sachets containing suspected crystal meth, among others. (Ely Dumaboc)
