DTI calls on repair shop owners to renew accreditation permits

Editor January 11, 2012

ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 11, 2012) – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Wednesday reminded all proprietors of service and repair shops to renew their accreditation permits.

This applies to all shops dealing with motor vehicles; heavy equipment, engine and engineering; electronics; electrical; air conditioning and refrigeration; office machines; data processing equipments; and medical and dental to renew their permits, it said.

The DTI also urged those with unregistered service and repair shops to get accredited so they can qualify or be eligible to bid in government contracts.

Service and repair shops are mandated by law under Presidential Decree No. 1572 to be accredited with the DTI and to renew said accreditation on or before January 31 of each succeeding year.

A 25% penalty is imposed for those who renew after this deadline, according to the agency.

The agency also called on the public to look for and patronize only DTI-accredited repair shops for their protection. The accreditation process requires service and repair shops to pass through certain requirements and standards to ensure that the transacting public gets the best value for their money.

For application forms or for further information, DTI said shop owners may call or visit its field Office or the National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center. (Lowell Vallecer)
