ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 16, 2013) – The Department of Trade and Industry has warned motorcycle riders against fake Import Commodity Clearancestickers being sold by unscrupulous people in Zamboanga Peninsula.
Regional Trade Director Nazrullah Manzur said they have received reports that fake ICC stickers are being sold at P250 a piece.
ICC is a document specifying compliance of imported products which are covered by mandatory standards as provided for by Republic Act 4109 and Department Administrative Order Number 5, Series of 2001.
Manzur clarified that the DTI and the Land Transportation Office have a way of checking the authenticity of the helmet stickers.
“The ICC stickers were produced with a lot of imbedded security features to prevent tampering. Those found guilty of altering, faking or replicating the ICC mark would be fined up to P20,000,” he said in a statement sent to the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.
The DTI provided ICC stickers to motorcycle riders for their safety helmets for free from August up to December last year. (Lowell Vallecer)
