Eighth “Harry Potter” book to publish in July – CBS News

Editor February 11, 2016

The eighth installment of the “Harry Potter” series will be published this summer, and this time, Harry is a dad.

The eighth part in the “Harry Potter” canon will be a script book based on the play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II,” by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. The play’s world premiere is on July 30; print and digital editions of the book will be available the day after, on July 31. It will first be released as a “Special Rehearsal Edition” and then as a “Definitive Collector’s Edition,”according to Pottermore.

The book picks up after the epilogue of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” where Harry waves off his children at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts. The play and corresponding book is in two parts due to the “epic nature” of the story.

In the play, Jamie Parker will portray Harry, Noma Dumezweni will play Hermione and Paul Thornley will play Ron.

There’s no doubt the eighth book will be immensely popular: The first seven Potter books have sold more than 400 million copies worldwide, according to Scholastic, the series’ U.S. publisher.(ANDREA PARK)
