MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / July 16, 2014) – The Department of Labor urged private companies to provide employees, who reported for work during bad weather, extra incentives or benefits to alleviate their plight.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz employers also shall ensure the safety of their workers or employees by providing free transportation, food, personal protective equipment and first-aid medicines, as may be necessary.

There was no immediate statement from different employers confederations and groups about Baldoz’s appeal.

This, after Typhoon Rammasun or locally called Glenda, battered the Philippines and left at least 20 people dead in Metro Manila. The typhoon left a trail of destruction and affected tens of thousands of families.

The typhoon hit just as the country is still struggling and recovering from the deadly trail of Typhoon Haiyan that killed more than 6,000 people in central Philippines.
