CEBU CITY – A former member of the elite US Special Forces was shot dead in an attack by motorcycle gunmen in the central Philippine province of Cebu, reports said Sunday.
Reports identified the American as Stephen Ray Gornto, who was shot in the village called Balud in Dalaguete town. His Filipina wife, Dahlia, said they were just waiting for a car mechanic when the gunmen appeared and shot Gornto without provocation.
Radio station dzMM quoted Inspector Rico Emperua, of the local police force, as saying that the Gornto couple had been involved in a trouble on June 28. Emperua said the incident was recorded in the police log.
No other details were made available by the police about the former US soldier. Police launched an investigation into the killing. (Cebu Examiner)
