Japan Sumo Association Chairman Toshimitsu Kitanoumi, known as one of sumo’s all-time yokozuna greats, died Friday. He was 62.
The native of Sobetsu, Hokkaido, became the youngest wrestler to be promoted to yokozuna in 1967 at 21 years 2 months of age, still an unbroken record. He won the Emperor’s Cup 24 times — the fifth most in history — before retiring in 1985.Speech(The Japan News)
