ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police arrested a woman posing as a police officer after she allegedly duped prospective police applicants in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, officials said Wednesday.
Officials said Esmeralda Jaime, 43, passed herself off as Senior Inspector Sarah Ibrahim, assigned at the regional police headquarters here, and collected money from applicants.
Insp. Dahlan Samuddin, the regional police spokesman, said Jaime was arrested in an entrapment set up by the police near Saint Joseph Church along Mayor Vitaliano Agan Avenue on January 20.
Jaime, a resident of Tetuan village, was said to have demanded P30,000 from each of her victims applying as policeman here.
Samuddin said the woman is facing criminal charges. It was not immediately known how many people were duped by Jaime. (Mindanao Examiner)
