Break-in reported by Bishop Antonio Ablon in his house in Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur province. Police are investigating the housebreak.
PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 12, 2013) – A Filipino bishop, who is an environmental advocate and one of the conveners of the Advocates for Peace, said he fears for his safety following a break-in inside his house in Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur province.
Bishop Antonio Ablon, of the Diocese of Pagadian City, Iglesia Filipina Independiente, said his housekeeper discovered the break-in at around 9 a.m. He said his bedroom’s window was forcibly broke into by a still unidentified assailant.
Although nothing valuable was taken from the bedroom, Bishop Ablon said the break-in is being investigated by the police.
He said there are no valuable items in my “modest” bedroom. “There was nothing robbed and lost as there was none to be robbed off. However, I feared for my safety right now as it happened while we are preparing for the solidarity mission to the mining area in Bayog town of Zamboanga del Sur,” he said.
Bishop Ablon is one of the conveners of the Advocates for Peace which, together with Rural Missionaries of the Philippines and Karapatan human rights group are set to hold a three-day solidarity mission in Bayog starting on July 15.
The purpose of the mission is “to share compassion and concrete love for the very least, exploited and disadvantaged sector particularly those suffering from the impact of large-scale mining operations.”
Organizers said a feeding program would be held among the children and the poor in Bayog and followed by a tree planting and a press conference on July 17.
TVI Resource Development (Phils.) Inc. is operating in Bayog town.
Over a hundred people and supporters, mostly environmental and peace advocates in western Mindanao, are expected to join the solidarity mission. Among the conveners of the solidarity mission are Bishops Jose Manguiran and Osias Jaim. (Mindanao Examiner)
