ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / June 22, 2013) – A professor at the Western Mindanao State University was abducted late Saturday by gunmen who barged in his house in Zamboanga city in southern Philippines, police said.
It said Professor Al Rojas was taken at gunpoint at around 7.20 p.m. in the coastal village of Campo Islam by armed men clad in army and marine uniform.
The gunmen dragged Rojas to the coastline where two speedboats were waiting, according to Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman.
He said the boats sped towards Basilan, once of the five provinces under the Muslim autonomous region.
“The Zamboanga City Police Office is now conducting a thorough investigation on the incident,” Huesca said.
Other reports said Rojas works as clerk in the university.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the abduction and the motive is still unknown. (Mindanao Examiner)
