KIDAPAWAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 1, 2012) – Rescuers continue searching Wednesday for at least 12 fishermen who went missing after the vessel ran into a water spout off the southern Philippines, reports said.
Some of those who survived told authorities that their fishing boat was hit by the vortex off the province of Agusan. The exact number of missing fishermen is still unclear, but initially authorities claimed that as many as a dozen people were reported missing.
The fishermen, mostly from the coastal town of Buenavista, went out at sea at dawn and headed to Butuan Bay when their vessel was hit by the water spout.
The Coast Guard also deployed several rescue teams to help in the search for the missing fishermen. (Mindanao Examiner)
