SULU – Dozens of children benefited from free circumcision launched by different groups in Sulu province in southern Philippines. The humanitarian mission, which included a blood drive, was initiated and launched by Sulu Provincial Women’s Council, Jolo municipal government, Jolo Chamber International, Philippine Nurses Association and Jolo Municipal Women’s Council.

It was the 3rd blood drive that the Sulu Provincial Women’s Council under the leadership of Nurunisah Tan, who is running for vice governor, in partnership with the Philippine National Red Cross in Sulu Chapter. And the free circumcision is now on its 10th year.

The activities were held in Jolo town and were praised by various sectors in the province. Tan, a professional nurse and philanthropist, also led the annual Libre Pag-Islam.

The Sulu Provincial Women’s Council regularly holds free clinic for women and children, and the elderly every Sunday and providing medical services. And all those were on top of the various livelihood seminars and training, and workshops for women to help them uplift their living condition and help provide additional income for their family.

“We want to empower our women, teach them and help them through livelihood trainings and seminars and workshops and we are so happy to report that all these programs are really successful. We even provide the free transportation money so our women can attend these free livelihood training,” Tan told the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.

Tan is one of the most influential and respected women not only in Sulu province, but also in Mindanao. (Al-franzie Sali)
