
MANDAUE CITY – More and more people are availing of the six-month course on Filipino and American Sign Language which is being offered for free to all willing students.
Just recently, a total of 99 students have graduated from the course which has five levels. It is being offered 3 hours every Sunday and 1 p.m.- 3 p.m., and 5 p.m.- 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
The latest batch of graduates included City Hall employees, college students, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Michael Allan Pielago, focal person of the City Social Welfare and Services (CSWS) for PWDs, said local government employees who took the course can now effectively communicate with deaf people.
He said free course is project of the Mandaue City Association of the Deaf in coordination with the CSWS. “It is one way of eliminating the barriers between PWDs and other persons,” Pielago said. (Cebu Examiner – MNS)
