ZAMBOANGA CITY – A nine-year old girl, who found a homemade gun, has accidentally shot and wounded her young cousin in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, police said Saturday.
Police said the wounded child was rushed to Quiniput Emergency Hospital for medical attention, but later transferred to Zamboanga City Medical Center for further treatment. She was shot in the chest.
The girl said she found the gun while playing with neighbors and decided to bring it home and give the weapon to her elders, but she stumbled and the gun went off hitting her cousin, who is just one and a-half years old.
Police said the accident occurred on Friday in the victim’s house in the village of Calabasa. The owner of the homemade weapon remains unknown. (Mindanao Examiner)
