ZAMBOANGA CITY – Globe Telecom, the Philippines’ largest and major provider of telecommunications services, has launched “Globe Media Excellence Awards 2015” for print, broadcast and online media as part of its advocacy and to encourage media excellence and recognize journalists who are breaking new grounds in their field.
Executives from Globe Telecom led by Marigold Endriga and Louise Antoniette San Antonio arrived in Zamboanga City with Doris Mongaya and Shaira Cutamora, of PRWorks Inc, their co-organizer for GMEA 2015, and met with local journalists and editors and publishers and briefed them about the much awaited annual event.
Cutamora said the GMEA 2015 has three categories – Print: Reporter of the Year; Investigative/Explanatory Story of the Year; Columnist of the Year and Photo Journalist of the Year. For Broadcast: Reporter of the Year for Radio; Reporter of the Year for Television; and Investigative/Explanatory Story of the Year for Television. And also Online: Blogger of the Year and Social Media Advocate of the Year.
She said there will be three nominees per category per area. She said for Mindanao areas – Cagayan de Oro, Davao, General Santos and Zamboanga cities, the deadline for submission of entries is on June 30, 2015. Entries may be submitted to: Globe Media Excellence Awards c/o Jambie del Rosario, 7th Floor, Abreeza Corporate Center, J.P. Laurel Avenue in Davao City.
She said there will be a recognition night for the nominees in General Santos, Zamboanga and Cagayan de Oro prior the awarding event in Davao for Mindanao and this will also be attended by the Screening Committee and Judges per area. Winners will be flown to Davao for the Awarding on September 24 this year.
Cutamora said all entries for the GMEA 2015 shall explore and advocate any or a combination of the following areas of concern: Business and Entrepreneurship, Information and Communication Technology, Environment and Disaster Response, Governance and Social Progress and Youth and Education.
She said a major consideration will be the social impact or a piece or body of journalistic work.
A maximum of six entries may be submitted for Print and Broadcast Categories; and ten for Online. Entries must be submitted in both hard (printed page) and soft (PDF saved in CD, with URLs for Bloggers/Social Media) copies. Entrants writing/reporting in Bisaya, Hiligaynon, Chavacano, and others shall be required to have an English translation of the articles or reports for the benefit of judges who are not proficient in the local language, according to Cutamora.
She said in case of lengthy investigative or explanatory reports, the entrant should have an English summary that should include the unique highlights and points. She added that entrants are required to attach references on their entry’s social impact and this may include screenshots of social media discussions and shares; references to subsequent reports and commentaries (print, radio, and blogs) arising from the entry; actions by government officials, civil society, and/or ordinary citizens; among other proofs of social impact.
Prizes and awards range from P5,000 to P20,000, including trophies and plaques for the winners. There will be a panel of judges for Visayas and Mindanao and each panel will have seven members coming from the following sectors – government, nongovernmental organization, business, IT, media, academe and the Church.
