ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 8, 2012) – Suspected hired killers shot dead a military intelligence agent in the southern Philippine port city of Zamboanga, officials said.
Officials said the attack, which occurred on Good Friday, killed Private Ismael Abdenair in the village of Putik. Abdenair was on a driving motorcycle with his wife when he was shot by the attackers.
Abdenair was a member of the Philippine Army Special Forces and assigned with the regional Military Intelligence Group in Western Mindanao. Officials said the soldier’s wife was left unharmed by the killers who escaped on a motorcycle after the shooting.
No individual has claimed responsibility for the killing, but gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga City where hired killers are actively operating.
The motive of the murder is still unknown. Soldiers and policemen had been mercilessly killed in previous attacks in Zamboanga City. (Mindanao Examiner)
