SULU – Government prosecutors in the southern Philippine province of Sulu now will have their own edifice which also houses the office of the National Bureau of Investigation.

The two-storey building in the capital town of Jolo was funded by the Sulu provincial government and inaugurated on January 12 by Governor Totoh Tan and other government officials led by Vice Governor Sakur Tan and municipal mayor Hussin Amin.

The ceremony was also attended by police and military officials and leaders of the business and religious sectors in Sulu.

Judge Alsad Alfad, Jr., of the Regional Trial Court and Fiscal Annie Marie Ledesma, together with lawyer Alkhaisar Saydil, the provincial prosecutor and other members of the judiciary, praised the Sulu government for the new building, saying, it will hasten the hearing of court cases and provide better services to the public.

The National Bureau of Investigation also thanked provincial officials for allowing it to occupy at least 2 rooms in the edifice for use in official transactions.

Governor Tan said the project is part of the commitment of the provincial leadership to bring government services closer to the people. The new building was only one of many infrastructure projects of the provincial government in an effort to hasten economic progress, peace and development and stability in Sulu.

Provincial engineer Abdurasad Baih said the building cost around P6 million. “This is just one of the many infrastructure projects of Governor Tan and all these are part of the peace and development efforts of the provincial government,” he told the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner. (Ahl-franzie Salinas)
