COTABATO CITY – Two unidentified men on a motorcycle exploded a grenade on parked truck wounding one person in Datu Odin Sinsuat town in Maguindanao province in the restive Muslim autonomous region in southern Philippines, officials told the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner on Saturday.
Officials said the attack occurred on the highway near the village of Dalican late Friday just as the truck parked near the Mindanao State University. The motive of the attack was unknown, but officials said the blast injured the helper of the truck’s driver.
Also on Friday, police forces led by Superintendent Cholijun Caduyac also seized a .50-caliber Barrett sniper rifle, a Carbine rifle, a .45 and .380 caliber pistols, including an M79 grenade launcher and munitions from Sadad Akob in the village of Tanuel in Datu Odin Sinsuat.
Caduyac said police were investigating Akob, who was a former village official. He said the weapons were all illegal.
Another explosion also occurred near Kitango village in nearby Datu Saudi Ampatuan town where army forces were deployed to stop some 200 Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters spotted on a remote village there.

The rebels managed to break into smaller groups and fled under cover of darkness.

The massing up of rebels came barely a week after police commandos killed Jemaah Islamic leader Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Marwan, in the village of Tukanalipao – a known stronghold of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front – in Mamasapano town where 44 members of the Special Action Force also perished.
The jihadist BIFF is a breakaway group of the MILF, which signed a peace deal with Manila last year. The BIFF is now fighting for an independent Muslim state in the troubled region. (Mindanao Examiner – With a report from mark Navales)
