
DIPOLOG CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 15, 2013) – Gunmen opened fire on a group of farmers harvesting coconuts in a village in Labason town in Zamboanga del Norte province, police said Monday.
It said the attackers fired automatic weapons and grenades and fled after the shooting. Police said there were no reports of casualties.
It said a village leader Alfredo Laput reported the attack, but the gunmen escaped even before policemen could arrive.
Investigators said the group of farmers headed by Arlan Bonggolto were harvesting coconuts in the village of Lawigan when the gunmen led by Omar Arasi and his sons Gemar and Ashmad arrived and opened fire on them.
The motive of the attack was unknown, but police said it mounted an operation to capture the gunmen. (Mindanao Examiner)
