Gunmen intercept PDEA agents, kill 2 prisoners in Dipolog City

Chief Editor November 23, 2016

PAGADIAN CITY – Masked gunmen held a group anti-drug agents and killed 2 suspected drug personalities they were escorting in a daring assault in Dipolog City in the southern Filipino province of Zamboanga del Sur.

Police on Wednesday confirmed the murder of Crisanto Gulang and Jeanet Acebedo, who were both arrested by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on November 10.

The assault occurred on November 21 while the PDEA agents led by Jury Rocamora and the prisoners were in an unmarked vehicle on their way to the police crime laboratory for a routine urine test on Gulang and Acebedo, according to Superintendent Rogelio Alabata, a regional police spokesman.

He said about a dozen gunmen wearing bonnet intercepted the car and held the agents at gunpoint and then shot Gulang and Acebedo. No one among the agents was hurt in the shooting.

“Their vehicle was blocked by  twelve armed men wearing bonnet and black shirt held  them at gun point and ordered PDEA agents to lay down their firearms and the gunmen shot Crisanto Gulang and Jeanet Acevedo several times before fleeing in different directions on  board a van and a motorcycle,” Alabata said.

He said the PDEA agents rushed the victims to the hospital, but the duo was already dead even before they reached there. No individual claimed responsibility for the murders, but police said it is investigating the incident. PDEA did not release any statement on the killings of Gulang and Acebedo. (Mindanao Examiner)
