BASILAN – Motorcycle gunmen shot dead a police officer in a daring broad daylight attack Tuesday in Isabela City in Basilan province in southern Philippines, police said.
Police said PO3 Jayton Lagdamero was travelling on a motorcycle when he was shot in the head by the assailants who tailed him near Menzi village. Lagdameo was killed instantly.
The assailants escaped after the shooting. It was unclear how the gunmen carried out the attack since the whole region is under an extended martial rule. Basilan is one of 5 provinces under the Muslim autonomous region.
There was no immediate statement from the local government, but police said it is investigating the motive of the killing. (Mindanao Examiner)
