
PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 26, 2013) – Police said armed men strafed the house of a politician ahead of October 28 village elections in the town of Labangan in Zamboanga del Sur province in southern Philippines.
Police said no was killed or wounded in the attack before midnight Friday that targeted the house of Bonifacio Dag-uman, a member of the village council in Naboran. Dag-uman told police that his family was awaken from sleep from the attack and had sought cover as the gunmen opened fire on the house.
Investigators said they recovered over a dozen bullet casings outside the house.
Police said it is investigating the motive of the strafing and officials could not say if the attack was connected to politics or not. But it occurred before the village polls and elections in southern Philippines are traditionally violent and bloody due to warring groups. (Mindanao Examiner)
