
PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Nov. 23, 2013) – Heavy rains on Saturday submerged at least four villages in Zamboanga del Sur and triggered a landslide in Zamboanga City, police said.
Police said the rains triggered flash flood that affected the villages of Magsaysay, Katipunan, Switch and Esperanza, all in Ramon Magsaysay town.
Police forces led by Inspector Jeremias Soreño and civilian rescuers evacuated the villagers to safer areas. There was no report of casualties, but police forces remain in the affected areas.
Flash flood also occurred in the villages of Baliguian town in Zamboanga del Norte province. Several houses were also damage or destroyed and police forces headed by Inspector Joie Alcasarin also assisted in the evacuation of residents.
In Zamboanga City, a landslide was also reported in the village of Salaan and disrupted traffic in the area.
The landslide prevented vehicles from traversing the road and village officials have to report the matter to the local government and sought equipment to remove boulders and earth from the area.
There was also no report of casualties from the landslide. (Mindanao Examiner)
