ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 16, 2013) – Two motorcycle gunmen killed a civilian in an attack in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines, police said.
Insp. Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman, said the victim, Ruben Macapili, 39, was resting on the front seat of a dump truck in the village of Talisayan when shot by the gunmen.
He said the assailants escaped after the shooting and that policemen were tracking down the attackers. The gunmen are believed to be hired killers.
“Investigation revealed that the victim was already aware that there was threat to his life. His wife said that two months ago, the victim had noticed that he was being tailed by suspicious persons onboard a motorcycle every time he went down to (the village of) Labuan or to the city proper and this matter was already reported by him to the police station,” Huesca said.
He said personal grudge is likely motive of the Friday killing, but police is still investigating the murder.
Gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga City where killings are almost a daily occurrence. Hired killers are actively operating in Zamboanga. (Mindanao Examiner)
