SULU – The Sulu Provincial Women’s Council launched a blood drive in cooperation with the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, officials said.
Officials said the activity – held at the Provincial Women and Children Center – was led by Vice Governor Sakur Tan who donated his blood. The number of those who turned up to donate their blood was far over from what had been expected, according to Hajja Nurunisah Tan, head of the Sulu Provincial Women’s Council.
She said they are contemplating on holding a regular blood drive every three months after the recent activity drew a huge group of donors – civilians, policemen and soldiers. She said the blood would be used by those who most need it, especially in treating dengue fever and other medical emergencies.
The Sulu Provincial Women’s Council has provided everything for free – from examination to blood bag – and with supervision of the Integrated Provincial Health Office under Dr. Farah Omar. IPHO volunteers also helped in the blood drive.
The blood drive also coincided with the cleanliness campaign launched by the provincial and municipal governments in an effort to fight dengue fever and other diseases. (Franzie Sali)
