PAGADIAN CITY – Police arrested an employee of the Iligan City government after he was caught carrying a pistol without any permits in Zamboanga del Sur province in southern Philippines, officials said Monday.
Inspector Dahlan Samuddin, a regional police spokesman, said the 53-year old Eleno Bacus, Jr. – who claimed to be the information officer of the local government of Iligan – was arrested on Sunday in the village of San Isidro in Mahayag town.
Samuddin said the official only presented a mission order dated December 1 and signed allegedly by Major Marvin Beltran, commander of the Cotabato City-based 12th Intelligence and Security Unit of the Philippine Army.
“The suspect was arrested by the PNP elements of Mahayag municipality for violation of Republic Act 10591 after he was caught in the act of carrying a .45-caliber pistol tucked into his waistband,” he said. “Suspect failed to present his firearms license and permit to carry firearms and instead he only presented the mission order.”
Samuddin said police also seized two magazines loaded with 12 bullets.
“The arrested person is temporarily detained at Mahayag municipal police station while an appropriate case for violation of RA 10591 is being prepared for filing in court,” he said.
The local government of Iligan did not release any statement about the arrest of Bacus. (Mindanao Examiner)
