DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Mar. 17, 2012) – Philippine authorities seized illegally cut logs in Davao Oriental province as the government campaign continues in the southern region of Mindanao.

The logs were estimated to be worth over P1 million and authorities were investigating the alleged involvement of a local government official after the  Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force and soldiers from the 67th Infantry Battalion confiscated heavy equipment used in illegal logging.

There were no reports of arrest.

The Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force was created under Executive Order no. 23 dated February 1, 2011 along with the declaration of moratorium on the cutting and harvesting of timber in the natural and residual forest.
