DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 27, 2013) – Forest rangers backed by government troops recovered about two dozen illegally cut logs in a joint operation Monday in Mati in the southern Philippine province of Davao Oriental, army officials said.
Officials said the logs were seized in the village of Tagbinonga where illegal tree cutters abandoned them.
The operation was carried out by members of the 701st Infantry Brigade, 104th Division Reconnaissance Company and personnel from City Environment and Natural Resources Office in Mati headed by Matranillo Wines.
“As part of our mandate in protection and preservation of the environment, the military will continue to support the government units and agencies for the same cause, along with other people’s organization. This is an interagency activity that portrays the spirit of Bayanihan,” Col. Paterno Morales, the deputy brigade commander, said in a statement sent to the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.
