Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis) is attempting to recruit lecturers skilled in weapons and explosives from Malaysia and Indonesia, says Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed. “They (Isis) thought their movement cannot be traced but the Royal Malaysian Police has managed to curb their activities,” he said when commenting on a newspaper report today of a plan to set up a Southeast Asian chapter of Isis led by Mahmud Ahmad, a former lecturer from Malaysia. Nur Jazlan said the plan to set up the group was a major threat for Malaysia and should not be underestimated. –
“They profess the ideology of Middle Eastern terrorists who are more extreme and more violent, such as the Isis militant group. “This is a threat to other Southeast Asian countries. In order to deal with the Isis militant group, we must monitor the internet as it is their main medium of communication where directives are sent out. “Suitable tools are also needed as the terrorists attack in small groups and are difficult to trace,” he added. According to the newspaper report Mahmud, who is also a member of Isis, will form a larger militant group in Southeast Asia. -:(Bernama)
