It’s final, Marcos to be buried at Libingan ng mga Bayani: Duterte

Chief Editor August 7, 2016

DAVAO CITY – President Duterte reiterated his decision to allow former Filipino dictator Ferdinand Marcos to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City despite strong oppositions from families and victims of the martial law era in the 1970s.

Duterte said those who oppose Marcos’ burial can even hold street demonstrations to dramatize their protests, but his decision is final.

“Ayaw ng ibang Pilipino, fine. Mag-demonstrate kayo, go ahead. You can use the streets one month. I will tell the mayor give him permanent permit, ayusin lang ninyo ang traffic,” he said.

Duterte said he even voted for Marcos for president and that his father, Vicente, also served in his administration. He said Marcos, a former soldier who fought during the Japanese war, is qualified to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

“I will allow the burial of Marcos sa Libingan ng mga Bayani.  Ang batas nagsabi sinong pwedeng ilibing doon sa Libingan, presidents and soldiers, huwag na muna yun iba, Marcos was a president, as a matter of fact I voted for him during his first term. My father was with him, he was a Cabinet member, so I voted for him,” he said.

“Marcos was a soldier, sinabi lamang ng mga kalaban na hindi totoo but…sabi nila eh hindi totoo yan si Marcos, peke yan. Well you know, lima, anim, pitong tao na magsabi totoo na lumaban talaga yan, pwedeng hindi nakapatay pero he was there to fight for his country, okay na sa akin yan. Sundalo pati presidente. Definitely he was a president and a soldier, alin diyan sa dalawa mamili kayo, he is qualified to be buried there,” he said.

Families of victims of martial law under Marcos have strongly opposed his burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. (Mindanao Examiner)
