COTABATO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 19, 2013) – Relatives of an arrested Muslim man who is accused as among those involved in the brutal massacre of 58 people protested his continued incarceration in Cotabato City in the southern Philippines.
Troops arrested Talembo Kahar Abdulrahman following a recent firefight with a group of gunmen in Maguindanao’s Mamasapano town.
Police authorities said Abdulrahman uses the alias Tommy Masukat and that witnesses positively identified him as one of the murderer, an allegation strongly denied by the man’s family and relatives.
Abdulrahman is being accused as part of a private army that was responsible in the 2009 massacre, whose victims included dozens of journalists and media workers covering a political caravan.
Kin of Abdulrahman said the military arrested the wrong man and that he was not involved in the brutal killings. (Mindanao Examiner. Mark Navales)
